Keem Beach in Co Mayo has been ranked among both Europe’s and the world’s best beaches.

Described as “tropical vibes in the raw Irish countryside,” Keem Beach has been ranked as the 7th best beach in Europe and the 48th best beach in the world by The World’s 50 Best Beaches.

The World’s 50 Best Beaches says it aims is to create a definitive, authoritative list that would inspire and inform beachgoers around the globe.

Tucked away on Achill Island along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, Keem Beach is free from large developments, allowing it to remain unspoiled and serene.

“What also makes Keem Beach stand out is its horseshoe-shaped bay, surrounded by towering cliffs and picturesque hills, creating calmer waters that are ideal for swimming in the summer.

“The sand is nearly white, and the waters are among the cleanest in the area.

“Keem Beach is accessible via a scenic drive with panoramic coastal views, where you might even encounter the occasional sheep or two, adding to the charm of this unique beach experience.”

The beach’s remote location, accessible via a winding cliff-top road, adds to its charm and sense of seclusion.

Keem Beach is not only visually stunning but also rich in biodiversity. The surrounding cliffs are home to various bird species, including puffins and razorbills, making it a popular spot for birdwatching.

The bay’s clear waters attract swimmers, snorkelers, and kayakers, with the chance to spot dolphins and even basking sharks during the summer months.

Adding to its allure, Keem Beach served as a filming location for the Oscar-nominated film “The Banshees of Inisherin,” where it portrayed the home of Brendan Gleeson’s character, Colm Doherty. This cinematic connection has further elevated the bay’s profile among both tourists and film enthusiasts.
